Our Mission

Our mission is to provide evidence-informed strategies and training to parents, educators, community stakeholders, and policymakers in order to ameliorate common childhood conditions. We offer tailored workshops in schools, communities, and at conferences that meet the specific needs of participants. Examples of these topics include jump-starting children's developmental milestones, implementing trauma-informed practices in school settings, managing challenging classroom behaviors, and building resilience in children while supporting their overall physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development. All of our training offers skills and tools that can be immediately put into practice.

The Full Story

In 2020, Tammy McCrory established Creating New Schemas a 501(c)(3) organization, with the goal of creating a nonprofit in Wayne County after dedicating several years to its formation. Initially, her aim was to support parents by providing them with essential items and resources needed for their children's optimal development, such as baby products, education, and support services. Her main objective was to offer contemporary solutions for longstanding social and behavioral problems through research, engagement, advocacy, and targeted interventions. McCrory's approach to addressing these issues involved helping individuals, families, and communities in "creating new schemas."

"A schema is a conceptual framework that enables individuals to organize and understand information, guiding their cognitive processes and behaviors."

McCrory observed that despite the presence of many organizations offering support and resources to those in need within the community, there was a significant gap in efforts focused on prevention and the reduction of some of the well-known issues among other challenges. To bridge this gap, she founded Universal Prevention Strategies, a nonprofit that enables her to pursue her passion for making a positive impact beyond her professional life. The organization has been renamed several times, reflecting feedback from community leaders and stakeholders.

Tammy McCrory envisions a community empowered to make decisions leading to optimistic and healthy outcomes. It is a place where stakeholders collaborate positively to drive change, with a genuine concern for the welfare of others serving as the motivational force.
